Rückblick 2009: Turtle Entertainment zieht positive Bilanz

Electronic Sports League (ESL) wächst national wie international – Hauptaugenmerk auf Globalisierung des eSports – Neue Partner und Lizenznehmer für die ESL

Köln, 29. Januar 2010 – Die Electronic Sports League (ESL) zieht für das vergangene Jahr 2009 eine positive Bilanz. Mit über 2,3 Millionen registrierten Mitgliedern verbuchte die ESL am Jahresende einen Zuwachs von 545.294 Nutzern (+23,6 Prozent) gegenüber 2008. Über 2.300.000.000 Seitenaufrufe (IVW) und monatlich 1.900.000 Unique User (Google Analytics) machen www.esl.eu zum meistbesuchten eSport-Portal Europas.

Bei den Intel Friday Night Games erlebten über 30.500 Fans die Faszination eSport in den größten deutschen Städten. Die Finalspiele der 14. und 15. Saison (Juni/Dezember 2009) in Köln zogen insgesamt 9.550 Besucher an. Durchschnittlich verfolgten jeweils 160.000 Zuschauer aus über 80 Ländern die Finals der ESL Pro Series Deutschland live über den IPTV-Sender ESL TV.

“2009 war für die Electronic Sports League ein zufriedenstellendes Jahr. Die Globalisierung des eSports haben wir erfolgreich fortgeführt”, sagt Ibrahim Mazari (35), Pressesprecher des Ligenbetreibers Turtle Entertainment aus Köln. “Die weltweite Intel Extreme Masters Turnierserie, die auf der gamescom 2009 in die vierte Saison startete, hat sich zudem erfolgreich als internationales Top-Turnier etabliert”, so Mazari.

Gerade international lockte die Electronic Sports League zahlreiche Zuschauer an. Auf 29 Veranstaltungen internationaler Lizenzpartner erlebten fast 200.000 Besucher eSport hautnah. 14 Lizenzpartner kümmerten sich um die Betreuung und Umsetzung nationaler Ligen, Turniere und Veranstaltungen weltweit. Im vergangenen Jahr hinzugekommen sind zudem Lizenznehmer für Israel und die Türkei. Die Electronic Sports League ist nunmehr in insgesamt 37 Ländern vertreten.
